D-DAY – 80TH ANNIVERSARY
Delivering High-Performance Event Infrastructure for a Historic National Broadcast
For the 80th Anniversary of D-Day, BBC Studios engaged PMY to provide a highly bespoke event network to support this national celebration. With a three-week build time and a single show day, the team provided extended on-site support from 4AM to 11PM to ensure 100% uptime.
The project involved setting up a reliable event network for production, a secure ticketing system, and support for concessions.
Three dedicated broadcast network points facilitated live broadcasts and PMY provided site-wide public Wi-Fi, including coverage for the Royal Box, with required high-speed connectivity.
The implementation began with a site assessment and network design, followed by deploying high-performance routers, switches, and access points. The network setup ensured coverage for all areas, and configurations with prioritised critical services like production and ticketing.
Stress testing simulated high traffic scenarios to ensure the network could handle peak loads. Optimisation based on test results further enhanced performance and reliability. On-site support from early morning to late evening included real-time monitoring to quickly address issues.
The deployment achieved 100% uptime, providing high-speed internet access that ensured smooth operations for all stakeholders. Robust support maintained uninterrupted service throughout the event. Comprehensive Wi-Fi coverage, including VIP areas, ensured reliable internet access for all participants.
The successful execution of the IT network for the D-Day 80th Anniversary by BBC Studios highlighted the importance of meticulous planning and robust infrastructure in event management.
The deployment of a high-speed, reliable network supported production needs and enhanced the experience for all attendees, including VIP guests.
This project demonstrated how strategic IT solutions are vital for the seamless execution of large-scale events.
