PMY have had the privilege of working with the BBC for over 10 years, providing robust IT solutions for various events. 2024 marked our 12th involvement in Radio 1's Big Weekend, a significant event in the UK's music calendar.
The event involved a two-week build and spanned three show days. It was a fully cashless event, requiring bars and traders to have internet connectivity for their EPOS systems. The PMY event technology team deployed 20 high-density Wi-Fi hotspots, featuring a BBC Radio branded landing page and comprehensive post event statistics.
The PMY network infrastructure included a network spanning 12 km of cable, generating over 23TB of data managing in excess of 2,800 simultaneous users with a total of 31,700 unique Wi-Fi leases across the three days, maintaining 100% uptime. The comprehensive event network covered production, event control, all bars, and traders. For security and accessibility, 14 HD CCTV cameras with digital backup were installed. For audience engagement six hearing loops were installed. Additionally, PMY provided 1GB internet fiber, a broadcast fiber ring, and a 1GB failover internet connection to ensure reliable connectivity.
The PMY solution ensured seamless connectivity and high-quality network performance throughout the event. The fully cashless operation ran smoothly with uninterrupted internet connectivity for bars and traders. The public Wi-Fi network enhanced the attendee experience, offering easy access and reliability.
